Carly Silver (née Greenway)

Carly began her Masters in September 2007. Carly is studying temporary prairie-pothole wetlands in central Alberta. Specifically, her research is comparing the water chemistry, macrophyte diversity and macroinvertebrate & waterfowl communities of early- vs. late-grazed ponds in plots exposed to a rotational grazing regime. An additional focus of her research is to document potential differences in the seasonal occupation of these wetlands by closely related macroinvertebrate species (notably predaceous diving beetles).

Before arriving in Calgary, Carly worked at the University of Alberta for two years, under the supervision of Dr. Suzanne Bayley. During this time, she studied macroinvertebrate communities across a gradient of anthropogenic disturbance in marsh wetlands in northern Alberta. In the slightly more distant past, Carly worked with Dr. Lawrence Harder at the University of Calgary, studying ovule and seed size variation in a number of flowering plant species (see Publications).
