Celebrating Charles Darwin and His Work
The year 2009 will see British naturalist Charles Darwin's 200th birthday (Feb. 12), and the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin's landmark On the Origin of Species (Nov. 24). Darwin's ideas have had an enormous and ongoing influence on science and society, and these anniversaries provide a unique opportunity to revisit Charles Darwin and his legacy. During 2008-9 the University of Calgary will be holding a series of Darwin events, to spark learning, discussion, and inquiry. Below are links to the planned events.
The lead organizer for these events is Dr. Jeremy Fox.
The events are sponsored by contributions from the Office of the President, External Relations, the Office of the Vice President (Research), the Faculties of Science, Social Sciences, and Humanities, the Departments of Biological Sciences, History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies, the Visiting Scholar Grants program, the Institute for Biocomplexity and Informatics, and the Calgary Institute for the Humanities.
See the recent UToday feature for more on these events.
