Hello all!
We wanted to let you know that in our next regular meeting Dan Kazmaier will be giving a lecture at 5:00 on how to improve your chess game. The lecture should run about 30 to 45 minutes, and Dan will use an instructional vertical chess board to assist him. We are very excited to have a real chess pro lending us his expertise! If you are not interested in the lecture there will be one table set up for regular chess playing during this time, as well as regular chess before and after the lecture.
However, we encourage you all to take advantage of this opportunity and hope to see you there!
Hope you are enjoying your weekend, and what appears to be the last of the nice weather.

Hello all!
Thank you for your interest in the University of Calgary Chess Association this year. We are extremely pleased that all of you are enthusiastic about chess!
Our executives this year:
Adrienne (Adie) Todd: President
Monica Sommerville: VP
Allison Bajt: Events Coordinator/Food and Beverage
On an apologetic note - it was recently brought to our attention that some of you thought there was a meeting last Thursday. Last week was "clubs week", a time where clubs advertise and recruit new members. Regular club meetings begin this week on Thursday, from 4 - 7 in MSC 279 (across from the pharmacy in MacHall).
So, what do you get for your $5 membership fee ($10 for non-students) this year?
- Weekly meetings where we provide space and materials for chess playing.
- Instructive seminars at various levels to help you improve your game. (This also includes beginner seminars - don't worry if you can't even move the pieces; we will teach you!)
- If there is enough interest, we can host tournaments which will be free for UCCA members.
- Again, if there is enough interest, we can offer "simultaneous chess" where one master chess player will simultaneously play ten people. This will be a chance for UCCA members to gauge their skills against a real master.
- Free food and drinks at almost every meeting
- The chance to participate in promotional activities.
So far this year we have received more interest than we anticipated. Unfortunately, this means our space may be a little tight. We will have to play it by ear on the first meeting when we see our final turnout.
Thanks again for signing up; hope to see you all on Thursday!
Adie, Monica and Allison,
The University of Calgary Chess Association
